Old-Timers Scoff at Lost Herd Story in Big Bend Cave
In The Cattleman's November piece The Lost Herd, Jake Loner allegedly drove 5000 head up the Rio Grande near Terlingua in October 1872, a cave found by two 1922 prospectors supposedly hid bones and horns. Local Big Bend residents doubt the tale, noting scarce grass, no cave large enough for 50 cattle, and calling for proof. The writer, Wilfred, reflects on Christmas memories and a New Year greeting.
