Land Secured For CAA Airport Near Van Horn

At the commissioners court meeting last Monday it was announced that all land for the $600,000 CAA airport near Van Horn had been secured. Bids for construction will be invited at an early date.

Alpine Boy With U S Forces In North Africa

A letter from Mrs. F. E. Lewis of Horseheaven Oregon reports their son Lieut Richard Lewis with American forces in North Africa. He says the going was rough but the operation succeeded and he is brushing up Spanish and learning French and Arabic. Mrs. Lewis also mentions a Florida visit and a new grandson.

Rose Winette Coleman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Coleman of Alpine, graduated from University of Texas Medical Branch last Friday. She is a Sul Ross College alum with a B S degree in 1939 and high scholastic honors, a Alpine High School graduate, and a member of Alpha Epsilon Tau. Coleman has an internship appointment at Charity Hospital of Louisiana starting March 1. the family attended Galveston graduation exercises with Mrs. C. E. Wilson of Oxford, Alabama, and she visited Alpine through the holidays.

Alpine church raises $200 for Juliette Fowler Orphans Home

Members of the Alpine Christian Church raised over $200 for the Juliette Fowler Orphans Home in Dallas this Christmas. Pastor Rev. E. B. Isaacks said the offering is sent each year at Christmas, and this year’s total is the largest on record by about $100.

Rain Brings Blessing to Big Bend Ranch Ranges

Ranchers across the Davis mountains and surrounding areas report a slow soaking rain during Sunday and Sunday night, delivering much needed moisture after a lengthy drought since August. Totals ranged from 1.0 to 1.13 inches near Sul Ross college, boosting grass roots and weed growth, with sleet and light snow noted on higher elevations and no extreme freezing reported.

Community Candlelight Musicale at Ft Davis Church

A Sunday candlelight musicale at the First Presbyterian church in Fort Davis drew a large crowd despite chilly rain. The Fort Davis Woman’s Chorus, directed by Richard G.
