Alpine welcomes Waldron Quicksilver and Mineral Development Company under Te. A. Waldron, formerly of El Paso and California, with branch offices planned in El Paso and New Orleans. Prominent Texas and Louisiana figures are tied to the venture, aiming to start active operations after January. Waldron, a seasoned quicksilver miner, predicts a bright future for the mineral line in Brewster and adjacent counties.
A California criminal linked to a Michigan or Native affair was captured in Alpine. Anita Miller, already in a marriage scheme, faced a warrant for goods under false representations. Sheriff Townsend arranged a arrest and a requisition to bring Anita back to California. The visit included conversations with Mr and Mrs Smith from Visalia and other travelers, highlighting a long journey and appreciation of Texas sites.
Mr and Mrs E Waldron and Mrs Waldron's two sons Robert and John A Shumate are now located in Alpine and plan to settle there. Waldron, an expert miner and manager of Waldron Quicksilver and M Development Co, arrived with a custom palace on wheels trailer built for the trip from El Paso and Valentine traveling about 250 miles over East Texas roads. They will camp near Weaver ice until a residence is secured and are welcomed by the community.
Alpine High School under Miss Lockett Pri will stage Style Show in the high school auditorium on Friday evening December 12 at 7 30. It will be a notable event and the first ever in West Texas with Dallas Pair style features. A color effects lecture will accompany readings and tote show program. Domestic department members will sell cards to raise funds for equipment.
Ladies of the Presbyterian Aid Society hold a bazaar and sale of fancy work and Japanese articles tomorrow Friday starting at 2 pm in the Dean Building just north of the Courthouse. Refreshments including sandwiches pie cake coffee and tea will be served all afternoon and evening. W M Watters of Marfa was a business visitor in Alpine on Monday.
Mrs. Bob Bourland died twelve miles south of town after a few illnesses. She leaves a husband and nine children, eight at home and one married. Burial was Friday in the city cemetery with services by Rev. H. J. Reemtsma. A Mexican Show played Friday and Saturday, with old acts yet good music from a local band. Creed Taylor is now and J. Gillett of Marfa visited Marathon. Several residents made trips to nearby towns and river, with oil wagons supplying Terlingua.
Last week J. F. Sutto moved his office from the Darl Building to the Lackey Building on Front Street. He will occupy Suite 2, finding the new location nicer and more centrally located.
Homer Ferguson bought a Dodge in El Paso and drove it home arriving in Alpine around six o clock Sunday morning after leaving El Paso about seven Jack Sunday. Mrs A J Biggs of near Dalhart attended her mother Mrs Wade's funeral last week and returned home yesterday.
A crew of G H and S A RY carpenters widened the Alpine office early this week. They removed the partition into the ing room and filled three fourths of that space in the office. The improvement ends crowding blamed on scarce passenger flow and was long delayed.
