Word reached here that Clyde Johnson formerly of Alpine was fatally burned when a cabin burned during a hunting trip near Trinity several days ago. Johnson managed Alpine Motor Supply near Graham's Texaco on Holland Ave for about two years before leaving four years ago. no other details of the tragedy are available.

Stolen Wool Recovered After Youth Confession
A sack of wool reported stolen from Sonny Uranga, a local trucker, last Friday night was recovered by Sheriff Jim Skinner and Texas Ranger Arthur Hill Monday at an 18 year old Youth's residence in South Alpine. The youth admitted taking the wool and was jailed with bond set at $1000.

The Texas Highway Commission from Austin announced a 1955 work program funded from state sources. In the El Paso district, projects include two bridges east of Alpine on U S 90, asphalt seal coats on State 17 from Presidio to Fort Davis and on U S 80 from Van Horn to Boracho, a bridge east of Marfa on U S 90, and an asphalt seal coat on FM 1112 from Marfa to the experimental station. Work to start after planning and right of way are secured. C T Holmes will oversee.

Water survey plans discussed by Alpine officials and USGS
Preliminary discussion of an Alpine water survey was held with county and city commissioners, USGS geologists, and engineer Ashley Classen. A $20,000 funding pool was set, with $10,000 from each party, to finance the work. USGS geologists will begin after Jan 1, with more to follow, and a final report is not expected until late next year. The county may drill test holes after the survey.
