Williams to Resign As Sheriff Monday
Brewster County Sheriff Carl Williams will resign at the Commissioners Court meeting Monday morning December 8 and leave effective December 31, 1969. He will join the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Education as a consultant, likely based in the Midland area. The court may appoint a successor to serve until December 31, 1970 with full four year terms starting after May 1970 primaries. Williams has served five years as sheriff amid mixed emotions over conditions and court support. Possible successors include Jim Skinner and Mike Stutts.

United Fund Study Seeks Alpine Community Support
Alpine Chamber of Commerce surveys members by mail to gauge support for a United Fund drive. A new full color brochure, 25 000 copies, will be available at the Chamber office. A membership banquet is planned for January and a nominating committee will select eight candidates for four director positions for 1970. Retiring directors include Corkins Walker and White.

Boy Killed In Fall On Agua Fria Ranch
Charles B. Hudson a 14 year old boy from Houston died after falling about 30 feet from a bluff on the Agua Fria Ranch while deer hunting with his father. They were resting at 9 a.m. when a rock toppled and the boy fell to rocks below. He died on arrival at Brewster Memorial Hospital and was sent to Houston for burial.

ASCS Manager Named Here In Brewster-Terrell Office
Clyde L. Daughhetee was named office manager of the Brewster Terrell County ASCS Office moving from Fort Stockton to Alpine. He brings 10 years with the ASC and succeeds James A. Police Chief Hamilton Injured in Ice Accident
Alpine police chief Herman Hamilton reported a quiet Thanksgiving period aside from one accident caused by heavy ice and snow. He slipped on ice at his home, fractured his left arm, and wears a cast but remains on the job.

Alpine School Board approved a 300000 bond sale to First National Bank at 5.5 to 6 percent over seven years to fund 15 new classrooms at Central Elementary. Construction to start in 1970 after final drawings. interest schedule runs 1971–1977 with payments of 40000 to 50000 yearly. Several firms refused bids as too low or callable.

Congressman Richard White announces Education Office grants totaling 148936 for two 16th District colleges to aid 459 low income students to stay in college.
