Local notes list many Thanksgiving trips with relatives in San Antonio Lockhart Lockney Lockney and El Paso. Guests include Bill Winter Sondra Breshears Nancy Glass and more as families visit Alpine during the holiday weekend.
Came last week to accompany his family back to Biloxi. Mrs Mary Bogel spent the tonio guest of her mother Mrs W T Pancoast. House guests in the Bogel home are Mrs Bogels son Graham Bogel and family of Amarillo and Mrs Graham Dowdell of El Paso. Mr and Mrs Charles Thomas went to San Antonio last week end with Miss Minnie Johnston and Miss Mildred Elliott. Miss Johnston and Miss Mildred remained in San Antonio for a mastectomy operation later this month. Miss Ruby June Burcham of San Francisco left Sunday after a month in Alpine visiting her parents Mr and Mrs W D Burcham. Also a guest was their son W J Burcham of Falcon, Texas. Miss Anna D Linn and Mrs George A Brown attended the El Paso Diocesan council meeting of the National Council of Catholic Women. Mrs Brown's daughter Miss Emilie, student at Universidad Feminina in Mexico City, joined them in El Paso and returned for a two month winter vacation.
A storied Scottish beacon, the Inchape light, moved to Newfoundland, gaining fame in both Old World and New World. The lighthouse once warned ships from Inchape Rock off Scotland, now stands off Cape Bonavista guarding fleets along England’s historic colony.
Cape Bonavista near St John’s hosts the Inchcape light now on the Cabot highway. The original Inchcape Rock lighthouse built by Robert Stevenson began in 1807 and withstood harsh seas. The beacon’s engineers created a 117 foot masonry tower, while the current red and white square building flashes every 90 seconds toward Scotland.
Six month old Linda Nadine Rodriguez daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jesus Rodriguez died November 21 and was buried November 23 in the local cemetery. The Rodriguezes also have a daughter named Lucila.
Brewster County issued twenty four motor vehicle registrations in November, up two from October and making the year total 235. Names and addresses of registrants include Alpine residents such as Chalmers Broadfoot, Carmen Garcia, Margaret Smith, and many others in Alpine and nearby towns, with several makes listed including Ford, Chevrolet, Buick, Oldsmobile, Cadillac, and DeSoto.
Col. E. B. Tilley of Houston urged stronger child protection on streets as he spoke for Texas traffic safety programs. He cited 4,400 children under 15 killed in traffic lag and called for safety rules to match wildlife protection ethics, backing state and national safety groups.
The Texas Safety Association backs a September traffic safety program with eight adult and eight child rules. Parents should model safe crossing and coordinate with school education, while motorists must stay vigilant near schools and playgrounds and yield to riders. There are 56 varieties of owls.
