Alpine Buck football coach optimistic on 1967 team
Coach Ansley told Alpine Lions Club the Bucks may field a strong squad if health holds. He noted a larger line averaging near 190 pounds, up from 157 last year, with 12 seniors 12 juniors and 12 sophomores. Harris Gets Hole-in-One at Alpine Golf Course
Jug Harris a retired U S Department of Agriculture official, achieved his first hole in one in 36 years on 160 yard No 2 hole at Alpine Golf Course Sunday using a No 5 iron. Witnesses included Ray Labeff Jack Hord Jim Francois Billy Ward Dan Ritter and Vic Molinar.

The Alpine Classroom Teachers Association hosts an evening social honoring new teachers at 8 p.m. on August 31 at Kokernot Lodge. Sul Ross opens pre registration with 3 day schedule
Sul Ross State College completes pre registration and starts formal registration for a 3 day period. The timetable spans Thursday Friday and Saturday with registration times by last names and groups. All registrations are in the Health Physical Education Building. An enrollment of about 2100 is expected. Final exams run December 15 to 21 with a holiday break following. Spring registration set for January 16.

Alpine airport funds eyed to extend runway and secure grant
Alpine Mayor Homer Hudgins said a $40,000 expansion program may be funded with a local $3,000 match alongside $39,030 FAA funds. The city has spent $17,000 on land, and a $19,000 Texas Aeronautics Commission grant could complete the match. FAA aims to expand Starrs Field with land, easements, runway extension to 4300 feet, turnarounds, lighting, electrical vault, and pavement markings. An FAA Albuquerque office official will schedule progress reviews.
