District Court Adjourns After Brief August Term
District court adjourned last Saturday after a short term with several civil cases disposed of. The grand jury met two days and returned one bill. Civil dispositions include five cases with judgments for plaintiffs in Parsell, Brown, Brown, Slover, and Cartwright, plus a garnishment dismissed and one debt case dismissed. County board approves 86 cents per $100 valuation for 1936 matching 1935 total rate with the state levy at 62 cents. Budget adopted for the year. Alpine residents and other property owners will pay the same overall rate as 1935. Preparations underway for a Dodson Means Hovey Dome test well northeast of Alpine after gas and oil showings and a depth of 2912 feet. Water relief planned before an eight inch pipe is lowered to bottom, then a test to follow. The well has drawn attention for several weeks.

Paving Starts on Alpine End of U S Highway 90
The first course of asphalt has been laid on the unpaved stretch of U S 90 between Alpine and Paisano. Paving has begun from this end and completed from Westside Courts to west of the S P underpass. Completion expected between here and Marfa within three weeks. Additional caliche crusher added to speed Alpine Fort Davis paving. Scenic loop road from the college campus to highway 118 nearing opening in a few weeks.

Planned CC sponsorship includes hosting the Texas Editorial Association on Oct 24, acquiring lands in the Big Bend area, and ongoing advertising. A membership drive was launched to boost attendance. Annie K. Turney praised bid work on post office ties. Alan R. Fraser urged closer CC cooperation with nearby towns. About 30 people attended. The Parent-Teacher Association will manage the next monthly program.

McEachern Moved to Brownsville Area Quarantine Command
McEachern, associate plant quarantine inspector for the U. S. Department of Agriculture, was moved Monday from the Alpine station to the Brownsville area where pink bollworm has prompted quarantines in Willacy, Cameron, Hidalgo and Starr counties. He will oversee the quarantine work in that region and plans to relocate his family after a brief return to fetch Mrs. McEachern and the baby.
