Proposals for sites for Alpine's new federal post office must reach Mrs. Annie Turney by 9 am next Monday. Inspecter D C Jernin will visit Alpine about August 26 to interview interested parties on site submissions. The $10,000 building has government approval but no location is set yet. Rainfall and resignations mark Alpine area week
Rains of a general nature fell across the Big Bend and Davis Mountains, bringing relief to parched ranges. A six inch rainfall was reported near Alpine and along the Rio Grande to Presidio, with totals up to 1.06 inches over two days. Rev. Buren Sparks resigned after nine years as pastor of the First Baptist Church, with plans to move to Burnet. Dr. B. F. Roche left Alpine for Monahans to open an office while noting a better opportunity.

Water Situation Here Is Improved
The city water situation is considerably improved since restrictions on lawn and garden watering began last week. If rains continue after showers started Tuesday, restrictions may be lifted soon. Reservoirs hold ample water for fire protection and complaints are few. City Secretary M H Moorman praised water users for cooperation and denied sales to highway contractors.

County Memorials To Be Completed On Courthouse Lawn
County officials advance centennial projects by planning two memorials for Brewster County soldiers and sailors who died in World War I. A $280 fund target covers finishing the monument and the plaque, with donations already made. The American Legion chapter will sponsor and has funds to complete the Pioneer memorial. Monuments will be carved from native marble from the old Jordan quarry near Alpine, exposed on site for months.

Rodeo To Be Held Here In October
Plans were launched for a two day rodeo and race meet in Alpine on October 2 and 3 promoted by Gene Benson and Earl McElroy with Brewster County Chamber of Commerce support. Calf roping trick riding horse races and more will fill the program. A cowboys and pioneers parade will open the event on day one at the fair grounds north of Alpine then prepared for the two day affair.

Alpine Girl Dominates Asheville Horse Show
Inda Benson of Alpine, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Benson, rode in Asheville without prior riding lessons and led ten campers to prizes at the summer school. She rode Silver Mist, a $2700 blooded horse, with its owner as trainer. Benson will head a riding academy after the camp ends and return to Westminster Choir School in late September.
