The annual Bloys meeting drew large crowds as plans discussed include possible re roofing improved seating and extended decking. W T Ed Jones chaired the executive committee with many pastors and notable locals in attendance.
Three legislators protested the granting of prospecting permits in the Big Bend park district after a check showed 408 acres set aside by Land Commissioner McDonald. Permits were issued recently, with several named recipients and leases for five years possible. Park board officials fear these actions complicate development plans and the transfer of title to the federal government.
Dusty Waller hosts rodeos in El Paso with Johnnie Mullina as arena director for the Ranch Hands event. Tom Snyder and Coach Rob are producers hoping for many entrants from the area.
The commissioners court advertises this week for bids to plan and install a heating plant at the courthouse. Bid opening is set for September 5. The contemplated improvements at the courthouse have long been needed.
Voters head to the polls tomorrow for the run off with absentee ballots tallying 58 in Aug 27 counting. Incumbents Anja Wilson and M L Causey face challengers in Precinct 2 and Marathon constable races while Gene Cartledge and Charlie Burnam contest the commissioner post. Polls close at 7 p m with results expected early due to the short ballot.
Traffic violators were cited in a Thursday night check by highway police and city officers. Twenty eight offenders paid $1 fines in Mayor Starns court, covering minor infractions such as no headlight, wrong light, license issues, speeding, and corner cutting. The flat one dollar penalty saved each violator at least twelve dollars in fines and costs.
A local contract notes a plan to begin a music class for a female performer in the week starting September 12. The brief item records timing for a farm setting as the venue for the class launch.

A group of 167 Boy Scouts from East and North Texas explored Alpine and Highlands in a day trip. They toured Campbell Barker's Alpine Motor Co and nearby sights, enjoyed refreshments, and planned onward travel to Fort Davis for additional activities.
A caravan of Texas Scouts led by Judge Beauchamp and Scout executive LH Harkey toured the Davis Mountains and Big Bend region. They visited Alpine, Fort Davis, and Marathon, with plan to hold future camps and vacations at Fort Davis State Park and other locations.
Probable WPA or PWA projects were discussed at a Monday meeting of the city commission chamber of commerce school board and time clubs. Congressman Thomason attended the session with President J W Gillet and other local leaders Present were Dom Ad a San BF Merle Cece and others.
