Big Bend Coca-Cola Bottling Co. begins full operation at a new Alpine plant on U S Highway 90 west of Alpine with a 120 bottles a minute capacity. The facility bottles Coca Cola Seven Up Nu Grape Big Chief and Sun Crest and employs managers Justin McLean and Gerald Baker who relocated from Marfa.

A trio of goodwill emissaries from El Paso's South western Sun Carnival met Alpine leaders on Monday. Sun Carnival president Bill Latham vice-president Karl Wyler and manager Bruce Brooks discussed inviting Alpine residents to the December 26 to January 1 celebration and the role of area princesses to its success.

Travel to Big Bend shows 33 percent July jump in 1961
Supt. Stanley Joseph reported 1961 seven month travel to Big Bend totaled 50 652 up 4 6 percent from 1960. July 1961 brought 12 110 travelers up 33 percent from 9 088 in July 1960. Campground use rose 16 percent to 4 861. Evening campfire programs in the Chisos Basin drew a July all time high 3 673 visitors, surpassing 2 993 record.

State Park Suit Settled in Davis Mountains Ruling
Final court ruling settles a two year dispute over horseback riding in Davis Mountains State Park four miles from Fort Davis. Riding is allowed on designated trails under supervision, with Mrs. Willie Merrill and Tom R. Gray retaining grazing rights. The Texas Supreme Court ordered judgment in line with its decision.

Don Geeslin has taken over management of the Livingston Funeral Home. He previously served as assistant manager at Hyde Park Funeral Home in Houston. Alpine School Board approved Cecil O. Toliver as a teacher subject to assignment. Gorgerio C. Uranga and Abel A. Hinojos were named maintenance janitors. Dr. R. D. Riley Gourley Laid To Rest In Brewster County
Riley Gourley 57, pioneer Brewster County ranching family member, died Monday after surgery. Graveside services were held 3 p.m. Tuesday at Marathon Cemetery, Livingston Funeral Home of Alpine directing. Born January 17, 1904, in Brewster County. Survived by daughter Wilmout Folsom of Kyle and two grandchildren.
