James Franklin Nichols Jr. son of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Nichols Sr. of a ranch southeast of town died Saturday night in Port Stockton after a week of illness from dysentery. He would have been five on September 15. Funeral held Sunday at five oclock at the Christian church with ministers from four denominations officiating. Grandparents from San Antonio attended as the community mourned with the bereaved family.

The Alpine Rotary Club held a lightly attended Friday luncheon with two visitors, Rev. Reemstma and Capt. M. McD. Williams. The group discussed continuing study of the Rotary constitution and by laws and developing a genuine community service program. Williams praised Alpine, while Reemstma urged action to avoid irrelevance.
A Suik State Teachers College delegation visited Alpine with a warm reception from the community. The events included a Community House welcome, a band concert, and a watermelon feast, all reflecting friendly interest in Sul Ross College.
Rankin County surveyor Harmon and his family escaped in night clothes when their restaurant and home burned completely the previous Thursday night. The fire origin is unknown and nothing was saved from the blaze. Harmon resided in the rear while using the front of the building for the restaurant.
Judge William Pierson of the Texas Supreme Court and his wife stayed with Mr and Mrs J D Jackson as guests. They are spending their vacation at Fort Davis with Thoreday as their travel day noted by local residents.

Kerr and the National Cattle Loan Company seeking foreclosure of a vendor's lien and payment of $49 250 with interest and attorney fees on a note secured by a deed of trust on land in Brewster Pecos counties. The petition alleges default and details credits and demands judgment foreclosing the lien and selling the property to satisfy the debt and costs.
