Official Opening of Alpine Public Library Tonight
The Alpine chamber invites all to the official opening of the Alpine Public Library in its new home at 6 PM. The event caps three years of effort by El Progreso club and local groups with a $3,000 check presentation to El Progreso by Mrs. J Howard Hodge, sponsor of the library, from the Texas State Federation of Women’s Clubs. The program includes the band, dignitaries, a ribbon cutting by Dr. Horace Morelock, and a community barbecue on the American Legion lawn. Chest X-Rays In Brewster County Four Day Stand
The Brewster county Tuberculosis association and the Texas TB group organized a mobil X-ray unit last weekend into Marathon and Alpine. Tom Kent said 104 were X-rayed in Marathon and 1021 in Alpine, with adults registering more than teens. The unit may return in the fall to encourage early detection and educate about TB prevention.
