Change In Social Security Benefits To Be Effective
Social security benefits for many claimants will be higher under the 1950 amendments, with monthly retiree payments estimated between 20 and 80 dollars and an average around 50 to 60. Odessa official Jack Calvert explained the new formula bases benefits on average monthly wages from 1951 onward, not back to 1900s. He warned that increases are not automatic for current beneficiaries and noted timing may affect 1952 payments. Calvert urged those aged 65 plus planning retirement in 1952 to check figures with the local office to decide optimal filing time. Self employed retirees may see lower benefits if filing before January 1, 1983.
