Tri County Livestock Association Formed in West Texas
Robert Pruett of Marfa is president of the newly formed Tri County Livestock Association uniting Presidio Brewster and Jeff Davis shows at the Vocational Agriculture building in Marfa. The group will create steer horse and lamb shows and double entries while reducing duplication, with first show set for January 1971 at the Presidio County Airport between Marfa and Alpine.

Alpine High qualified five students for the Aers literary meet in Lubbock on April 25 after strong UIL district results. Sally Glasscock won spelling, Randy Wilson topped number sense, Arturo Rivera led slide rule, with Paul Gaddis and Delia Muniz also earning regional berths. Others placed include Tom Rains, Carla Valdez, Lauren Satters White, Jim Pattillo, and Kathleen Roach. The Fabens district won 6-AA with Parkland second and Canutillo and Alpine third and fourth.

The City of Alpine appeals an injunction ruling in the Sunny Glen water dispute. District Judge C E Patterson issued an instructed verdict in favor of Sunny Glen property owners arguing water should be free per a 1956 deed to Roy Largent and successors. Plaintiffs include Corkins DiMarco Gaddis Hardegree O'Donnell and Rogers. City defense led by John Allen with Milton L Bankston of Stubberman McRae Sealy Laughlin assisting.

Brewster Memorial Hospital in Alpine accepts 16 licensed vocational nurses and 3 graduate LVNs resignations effective April 30 after weeks of discussion. Board says pay scales based on area rates. 75 percent of RN salary is goal but not feasible now. Hospital will reclassify resigning nurses if they reapply, risking loss of seniority and starting pay at the $300 minimum.

U S 90 and 67 One Way Plan to Hear in Alpine
A May 25 public hearing at 7 30 p m in the Alpine courthouse will discuss a Texas Highway Department plan to reconfigure U S Highways 90 and 67. The proposal would route eastbound traffic on U S 90 and divert westbound traffic to Avenue E after reconstruction. Sid Surratt says Avenue E could be let for reconstruction by August 25 or 26 with work starting in September and completion near January 1, 1971. Core maps and drawings are available for inspection at the resident engineer’s Alpine office and with the City of Alpine.
