Mrs A J Hoffman elected president of the Fort Davis Art Association at Dr Hoffman's home. Mrs Carol Mc Master chosen secretary treasurer with charters including Miss Mary Ann Carlton and others. Summer workshop planned at Hoffman's Fort Davis home July 6 to 16 with Kate Ball of El Paso teaching.
Mrs Bryan Wildenthal hosted the Wednesday Bridge Club with high score among guests earned by Mrs Gay Meriwether and high among members by Mrs John C Epperson. Low scores went to Mrs Mark Herring and Mrs Gerald P Ogle. Tea hour was led by Mrs J W Morelock with Mrs Hugh White serving cake. Members included numerous with guests listed. Joe Benson of Hunt visited his mother Mrs George M Benson and brother Gene over the weekend.
Sohl Neville Haynes and Pete Gallego were sworn in as Alpine School board members for 3 year terms at Tuesday night's meeting. The board approved Election Judge 1D. M. Bennett's report. Sob and Haynes were re elected and Gallego is a new member replacing Ray LaBeff.
Humble Oil Co 1 Store Pecos County drills to 11393 feet. Woodford shale in lower Mississippian age eyed as Devonian objective by week end. Gas shows at Wolfcamp tested but two tests yielded water. Ellenburger and Devonian remain main goals while no oil or gas yet. Standard Oil No 11 Espy Jeff Davis County advances at 1615 feet.
Amblin who homered in the first inning for the Chicago White Sox helped defeat the Detroit Tigers. Lou Berberet caught for Detroit and has ties to the old semi pro Cowboys. Sul Ross Rodeo Club members plan rain charging and note recurring rain in most intercollegiate rodeos at Sul Ross.
The Marr Alpine Drag Sinp Association holds its monthly drag race meet at 2 p.m. Sunday April 19 at the Old Marfa Air Base. Entries are expected from El Paso Lubbock and nearby areas. Trophies awarded to all class winners. The meet will be held each third Sunday at 2 p.m. thereafter.
Mike Nelon district representative of Explorer Post 48 was chosen district chairman at a Marfa meeting last week. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Grady Nelon and the Explorer troop is sponsored by First Presbyterian Church. Garden Club hears dahlias talk hosted by Mrs. J. M. Alderson and Mrs. B. B. Bounds in the Presbyterian Hospital Room.
The King and I a Rodgers and Hammerstein musical opens tonight at Sul Ross State College Auditorium and runs through Saturday. Directors Miltia Hill Dr Delbert Dyke Glenn F Davis and Dr Katherine Boyd lead the joint art and music departments with Wile moth supervising lighting and William Thomson conducting the orchestra. Willa Dale Hilbrich Alpine freshman and Dan Shockey San Antonio senior star in leading roles with about 100 people involved on stage and off. Mr and Mrs A S Wagner of Tillsonburg Canada recently left after a month’s vacation at the Rex Ivey ranch in Lajitas.
Big Bend residents bought more than 400 memberships in the past week to hear top artists in Alpine Marfa and Fort Davis. Paul Draper will appear at Sul Ross Auditorium in December. Theatre Men and Eden Tamir will perform in Fort Davis. YiKwel Sze the bass baritone will sing at Fort Stockton High School Auditorium on April 20. Reciprocity exists between Fort Stockton Pecos and the Tri County associations.
Rev and Mrs Ralph Wootton with son Ralph Jr of Austin visited Texas friends. Don Littleton and Ticky Shepperd of El Paso joined them for a recent visit. Mr Wootton, ex pastor, spent time with his parents Mr and Mrs J W Shepperd, who recently completed work on their end.
