American Legion post No 79 of Alpine announced sponsorship of three Alpine High School boys to Lone Star Boys State in Austin June 7 13. The 1950 citizens were selected for the program and will attend events and training as part of the state program.

Big Bend park ads aim to draw four thousand families to Texas

The Sul Ross Lobos host New Mexico State University in Friday and Saturday games. Sul Ross carries 8 wins 1 loss at home while NM State stands at 4-4. last year the teams split two at Las Cruces. Alpine Creek Widening Expands Carrying Capacity

City officials announce Alpine Creek widening will significantly increase capacity. The project uses a bulldozer from North 5th Street bridge to four blocks north, widening channels from 30 to 75 feet in places. Completion will enable Main Street access from Fort Davis Highway to Brewster County Memorial Hospital with a concrete slab poured at the creek crossing.

Marfa Area Car Crash Injures Hopson

M L Hopson escaped serious injury when a tire blew out and his Chevrolet left the road about eight miles south of Marfa on Tuesday night as he traveled from Presidio to Alpine after a business trip.

Cowboys Begin Spring Training In Alpine Opening Day Tickets On Sale

The Alpine Cowboys open spring training in Ocala Florida ahead of the April 27 Sophomore League season. Opening day tickets are on sale with box 1.25, reserved 1, bleachers 0.50, Sul Ross students and children 0.25. Tickets available at Kokernot Field Big Bend TV Alpine and Baker Jewelers Marfa. Big Bend Park records Easter visitation under Mission 66 expansion

Park Superintendent George W. Miller announced record Easter attendance at Big Bend National Park amid Mission 66 improvements for fiscal year 1960. Over 237 visitors traveled in 382 autos during three days, the largest Easter crowd since 1944, as Basin cabins and Rio Grande Village campground regions approached capacity and new facilities continued to open.

Service Station Week Proclaimed In Texas

Gov. Price Daniel proclaims April 6 to 11 as Service Station Week in Texas honoring the Texas Service Stations Association convention in San Antonio. State Park Improves Facilities at Davis Morlins Park

Park manager Lou Walker outlined new camper facilities at Davis Morlins State Park near Indian Lodge. enhancements include hot and cold showers, laundry equipment, repainted interiors, new kitchen appliances, and an upcoming $6000 roof contract. An open house is planned for April 3 plus a charcoal broiler for steaks, with Easter holiday attendance totaling 3500 and annual visitors reaching 132000.

Sunny Glen water joins Alpine city mains amid upgrades

Water from the Sunny Glen field began flowing into the Alpine city mains on Tuesday as in city wells run at full capacity. Mayor W E Lockhart says the new line allows 300 gallons per minute entering the system while older pipelines are upgraded to reduce sand taste and chlorine issues and a temporary 400 gpm limit remains until a larger 1000 gallon line is installed.

Sul Ross State College to get near quarter bump in funds

The House Appropriations Committee favors a 25 percent funding increase for Sul Ross State College in the 1960 60 biennial bill. Totals propose 500 494 first year and 897 570 second year including local income, with state general funds around 753 282 and 746 527 respectively, while other budget plans vary. Enrollment is seen rising from 68 last October to 1011 next October and 1068 in the following year. President Bryan Wildenthal would not receive a salary raise under the bill.

Red Cross officials plan a May weekend conclave in Davis Mountain State Park drawing 27 chapters from San Angelo Ozona Kermit and Pecos. City studies new water pipe installation reports

Detailed engineering reports on laying the city's new inch cast iron water pipe have been received from El Paso engineer Ashley Classen. The reports are now being studied by the City Commission and members of the water committee.
