Plan removal of district highways quarters sparks Alpine protest

Shirley Scales president of the Alpine chamber of commerce leads a telegram protest to the State Highway Commission in Austin over moving the district headquarters from Alpine to Pecos. Alpine officials arranged a site and temporary housing, with county funds set aside for permanent quarters, but final decision remains pending. Opening of Marathon’s New Gage Hotel Draws Big Crowd

The Marathon Texas opening celebration for the Gage Hotel drew 500 to 600 guests in four hours. Mr A B Gage and Mr and Mrs Pacetth hosted the event with Maria Mexican orchestra providing music and refreshments served. Alpine visitors helped fill the crowd while praise for Marathon’s hospitality and modern facilities echoed through the reviews.

Pioneer cattleman J. J. Edwards dies at home

J J Edwards a veteran cattleman of the West died at his Alpine Texas home after a year bedridden from a fall and paralysis. Born August 29 1866 near Fort Worth he spent his life in cattle operations across Arizona Indian Territory and Alpine. He married Mary Tackitt in 1885 and leaves wife two sons Cas and Jack both car salesmen in Alpine and sister Mrs Cynthia Sisk Fort Worth.

Alpine Masons Aid Big Shrine Delegation to El Paso

Alpine plans its largest ever Shrine delegation to attend El Paso Temple events.
