Railroad men outline strike aims to Alliance Rotary

Alliance Man Honored by Scottish Rite in Washington

Harry F. Thiele of Alliance was elected a knight commander of the court of honor by the Supreme Council of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Southern Jurisdiction in Washington. Recommended by Frank C. Patton of Omaha, Thiele helped organize Scottish Rite bodies in Alliance and served as first secretary, one of only two Alliance men to hold the rank.

Rapid Progress on M. E. Church Construction in Alliance

Construction of the Alliance M E Church advances rapidly under Superintendent A S Mote. The project aims to enclose the edifice within three weeks of fair weather, with cost cuts from 75000 to 62000 and a dome feature enhancing the auditorium.

Institute draws 125 teachers for Alliance sessions

Shot Fired At Brakeman On Freight Train

An unknown assailant, likely a hobo, fired at Brakeman H. B. Anderton as the southbound freight neared Alliance. A bullet hole pierced his hat but not his scalp. Police and Burlington agents detained several hoboes for questioning with no arrests.

Express Company Considers Move to Burlington Station

R D Patterson of Omaha, superintendent for American Railway Express, visited Alliance to study moving offices from the Masonic Temple to the Burlington station. If arrangements with the railway company and lease terms allow, the move could occur when the current lease ends March 1, 1922. Also noted are Antioch teachers attending the Alliance institute, including Miss Smith Klingaman Stewel Graham and Mrs Douglas and Mr Messersmith.

Salvation Army maternity home drive planned in Box Butte

Box Butte county advisory board of the Salvation Army met at the chamber of commerce to organize a fundraising drive for the Omaha maternity home under construction. The October 26 to 29 effort targets a $400 county quota with appeals to Rotary Lions Eagles Knights of Columbus and other groups plus churches theaters and members of multiple organizations.

Plan Baseball League In Six Sandhill Towns

Ellsworth Nebraska reports the formation of a six town Sandhill Baseball League for next season. Whitman Hyannis Bingham Ellsworth Antioch and the De Molays of Alliance will field clubs. Whitman led this season 18 of 20. Ellsworth finished second 11 7. Rules limit salaried players and enforce fines for unfilled dates and unruly play. Mr and Mrs Ray Pedersen of Marswidh were in town on business.

Merle Ellis and Harry Lee, arrested last Saturday while engaged in the laudable effort to separate Indians from their potato money, and Jack Stewart, were fined $100 each in county court by Judge Tash. They paid costs and part of the fines, and were released Tuesday. They vowed to return to pay the rest at $10 weekly, while Stewart remained jailed Thursday and faced dwindling hope. Friends pressed Deputy Sheriff Kiskimen to let them bring delicacies to the prisoners.

Certificates of Service for Ex Soldiers Display in Nebr. County

Box Butte county ex service men are invited to claim engraved certificates of service issued by the state of Nebraska. Distributed in Alliance, the parchment certificates bear the state seal and signatures of Governor McKelvie, Secretary of State Amsberry, and Adjutant General Paul. Two hundred ninety one were sent to Box Butte. many may be framed as memorials, though a few would prefer cash.
