California Disaster Kills 33 at Long Beach Pier Collapse
The Long Beach auditorium collapse on Saturday noon during Empire Day celebrations killed 33 and injured about 200 as a crowd of women and children plummeted forty feet onto sand and wreckage. Thomas Beck of Alliance, a Scotsborn pioneer, was among the dead. his step son George Darling learned of the tragedy.

Big Cattle Sale At Alliance Stock Yards Draws Buyers
The Alliance stock yards hosted a large cattle sale Monday with strong advertising. Buyers from Aurora, Scottsbluff, Hyannis, Oshkosh, Denver and Buffalo attended as about eight hundred head were sold. Ed F Peterson of Thelma and Miss Lynch of Hyannis led purchases totaling around 14 000 and 10 000 dollars respectively, with Jeff McRea snapping up many cattle including eleven bulls. Organ Townsend praised Col Coursey and booked him for a Sheridan Wyoming sale soon.

Child's Leg Broken in Auto Accident Near Herald Office
Four year old Helen Formesil, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Formesil, was run over by C. A. Newberry in a Ford runabout in front of The Herald office at 5 26 Monday afternoon. She suffered a leg fracture above the knee and was taken to St Joseph's hospital with her father and Newberry. Witnesses say no blame attaches to anyone as Newberry drove slowly and the child darted into the path. The fracture is not believed to be serious.
