Reed Stops Three Boy Runaways
Chief Oscar W Reed arrested three Lakeside youths after a Sunday telegram led to their pickup at Burlington station in Al Mance. The boys Rex Block aged fourteen Burl Been twelve and Forest Wilgon sixteen planned to head to Denver selling newspapers while avoiding punishment at home. They wandered from Lakeside to Antioch and Alliance, endured cold weather and a $1.50 room charge, and were returned home by trains and an automobile. The trio said the lure of city life and escaping whippings motivated the trip, with Been and Wilgon reflecting on parental discipline.
