Alliance and Box Butte County residents raised 9028.10 for the Red Cross war fund during a weeklong drive led by Frank J. Was and five committees. Team 4 headed by Chas Brittan led in total subscriptions. Team 5 topped in individual gifts. A wide group managed office operations at the city hall and supported the fundraising effort with diligent volunteer work.

Traitor and Bigamist Held on War Charges
Charlies Curtis, alias John Bradley, a suspected traitor and bigamist, is jailed awaiting a hearing before US Commissioner Berry. Arrested after refusing to aid the Red Cross and lacking a draft registration, he allegedly claimed he would grab a gun to fight for the Kaiser. Police found two wives, with letters indicating name changes. He possessed an I W W membership card and clippings about riots.

MRS BAUMGARDNER DIES IN GRAND ISLAND
Mrs. M. J. Baumgardner mother of Mrs. W. E. Spencer died Tuesday afternoon in Grand Island while visiting the soldiers home. She settled in Box Butte county thirty-one years ago from Illinois and would have been eighty five in four months. Survived by two daughters Mrs. W. E. Spencer Alliance and Mrs. George Williams Norfolk, and a son John Baumgardner Phoenix, and brother J. W. Wible Ottawa Kansas. Funeral set for 2 p m Saturday at the Spencer home conducted by Rev A A Layton. She was a member of the Baptist church.

Extra Work on Federal Building Remodeling Basement
