The Herald presents biographical sketches of Nebraska stockmen with half-tone ranch scenes from the Ankeny ranch in Garden County. It features 3,000 Hereford cattle owned by B. F. Ankeny and notes his status as a leading western Nebraska ranchman still enjoying single life.
The Herald notes plans to broaden the department to include non ranchmen with ranching interests. W B Tage, born 1875 in York County, long associated with livestock, worked for Cudahy in Omaha, formed McCloud-Love Live Stock, partnered with Hampton in Hampton Tage cattle loan, later retired to South Omaha, active in Nebraska Stock Growers Association and Alliance affairs.
Tage Bros and Smith Bros Commission Co. of South Omaha merge their operations on January 1, 1915, with W. B. Tage as manager. The Tage family, long identified with northwestern Nebraska cattle interests, remains a familiar name among stockmen. Billy Tage is a well known South Omaha figure who welcomes western visitors and attends the stockmen’s conventions each year.
W D Fisher outlines Commercial Club activities since March 1914. Committees named for Stockmen's Convention June 18 19 20. Plans include parade costs, decorations, advertising, concessions, and a driver to boost Alliance. The club reports meetings, budget adoption, a paid secretary, census and water tower talks, and upcoming conventions with funds and prizes committed.
A Sunday decoration day at the Alliance fairgrounds drew about 3000 people for a service led by Rev. F. C. Barrett with songs by the Alliance Choral Club. Speakers included Jack Miller and Dean Ware, praising righteous causes in U.S. wars. Members of the Alliance Fire Department decorated graves, with numerous Civil War, Spanish American War, and Confederate soldiers named among those honored.
A closing sale at The Right clothing store owned by Roy Beckwith awarded a prize piano to the sponsor with the most votes. Votes counted per cent, with top contenders including the Eagles lodge Episcopal church and I O O F lodge. final tallies show Episcopal church leading among the candidates.
Northport saw half an inch of rain Friday evening. Manning Bros. shipped a car load of horses from Northport to Grand Island. Gladys Tables of Bayard, aged several, left for home after attending high school on the south side. A. T. Sebolt returned from business in the eastern part of the state last Wednesday. Miss Hellen Dunn and Miss Maude Tolle returned home nine miles east of here after attending high school on the south side. Mrs. B. J. Gebauer, formerly on the aleh list, is able to be about again. Miss Cecelia Webbs, assistant principal of Bridgeport schools, will leave Monday for Milfort, her home. Jesse Edson is now in a new building serving his customers as before.
