Classy wrestling show at Phelanoper House draws praise

A high quality wrestling program at the Phelanoper House featured several bouts. Hank Weber promoted and refereed as Logan Champ and William Florian clashed in entertaining lightweights. Champ won the first fall 17:66 and second 22:35, with Mills and Monier offering skilled exhibition.

Rail receipts show Omaha leads Nebraska rail traffic in 1913

Estimates from the state railroad commission report reveal Omaha total rail receipts at 11,491,494 with South Omaha adding 4,458,569, giving the metro area near 17 million. Last evening in the high school assembly room a preliminary debate selected a team to represent Alliance in the district debate. The question debated was whether regulating trusts is preferable to dissolving them. Judges included E. H Boyd Mrs Jerry Rowan and W W Wood. Michael Nolan Nell Tish and Max Wilcox received top honors and will form the district team.

Don Grinstead a former Alliance man was removed from the pest house by county and city officers after refusing to leave quarantine. He and Marie Perry of Gordon Nebraska lived together. she recovered from illness and was released. Grinstead is said to have a wife and children in Humbokit Nebraska. The Falls City sheriff will transport him Friday noon back to that point.

French Memorial Unveiled for Captain Scott in Alps

Paris February 5. The Captain Scott memorial, funded by private subscription in France, was unveiled on the Col de Lautaret in the French Alps. The British explorer tested motor sleighs in March 1906 before his dash toward the South Pole. The ceremony was under the auspices of the French Alpine Club.
