Alliance Fishermen Discover Larabee Creek Retreat

Jim Keeler of Alliance is credited with locating a premier trout fishing spot on Larabee Creek in Sheridan county Nebraska. A party led by George Darling traveled eighty eight miles to camp and fish, sharing success and inspiring others from Alliance to plan weekend trips to Larabee and White Clover creeks.

Threshermen and Growers Meet In Allance

A meeting of threshermen and all winter grain growers will be held in the assembly room of the Box Butte county courthouse in Allance on Saturday August 11 at 3 p m. The aim is to find ways for early threshing and seeding of a larger acreage, with national emergency fueling the conference.

Jameson cuts cattle inspection contract savings in Nebraska Wyoming deal

Charles C. Jameson president of Richards and Comstock traveled through Alli ance on business and home in Denver. As Nebraska Stockgrowers secretary treasurer he negotiated cattle brand inspection fees with Wyoming, reducing the final year cost from 6000 to 5500 dollars. He plans to return to Denver that night.

Red Cross Breakfasts Hostess Mrs Lloyd Thomas

Mrs Lloyd Thomas hosted two 9 o'clock Red Cross breakfasts on Wednesday and Thursday mornings. Four courses were served and the residence dressed in patriotic colors with sweet peas and cut flowers. Guests included numerous local ladies and two prize drawings were held with winners named for each day.

Red Cross Sewing Cottage Opened at Hofland

J. H. Show of Metash Products Company fitted a cottage for Red Cross ladies at Hofland. A modern sewing setup with electric motors and machines was supplied through George Daring of Alliance. Miss Batton of New York City directs the work, with Wm. H. Ostenberg Jr handling finances for Hofland.

Crawford Picnic Brings UCL TTPA and Alliance Teams

A joint picnic of UCL TTPA and Alliance Post TPA at Crawford City Park featured sports and prizes. The Crawford band led music while Crawford defeated Alliance 7 to 1 in a ball game. Attendees returned by night train or overland.

Alliance Potash Go Organized with 165000 Capital

Frank Krause leads as president of the new Alliance Potash Company formed by Alliance investors. The plant will pump brine from lakes twelve to fourteen miles north of Antioch with a 165000 capitalization and aims to begin operations by January 1, 1918 on a forty acre site east of the American plant at Antioch.

Neighborhood scrap heard in county court

The Malone Rozzle family feud ended with the defendant dismissed after the state failed to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. John Malone had Rozelle arrested for assault and battery on Mrs. Malone amid a dispute over livestock and household objects. The case was continued thirty days to allow Mrs. Malone to attend the hearing.

Nebraska hearing weighs railroads on stock damage liability

A Lincoln hearing before the state railway commission considered a petition led by Burlington and joined by Union Pacific Chicago and North Western and Missouri Pacific to limit liability for stock damage to transit periods only. Shippers would be bound to accept declared values 76 for steers 60 for cows 20 for calves, with higher values commanding higher freight. Robert Graham and A F Stry received representation for stockgrowers and commission men respectively.

A no car load of Kitchen Utility Stoneware arrived at the National Five Ten and Twenty-Five Cent Store, featuring salt boxes jars and milk cracks among others. In Box Butte county a liquor theft from a Burlington freight car triggers multiple arrests. Granger, Pettigrew, and Granger linked to stealing a case of whiskey. Neal and Rains testify, with Rains fined $100 and jailed. The case exposes a Burlington switching crew involved in interstate thefts.
