Alliance Volunteer Fire Department Plans April 30 Dance

The Alliance Volunteer Fire Department held a meeting to organize music for an April 30 dance at the armory. The largest orchestra yet to play for an Alliance dance will provide the music. The department also plans a baseball team and armory expansion, with bids and plans to be secured.

Burlington Plans Five Special Trains to Alliance on April 30

The Burlington railroad will run at least five special trains into Alliance on April 30 in addition to regular night service. A 16 coach train departs Ravenna at 2 a.m and a 14 coach train arrives Casper at 10 20 a.m A 14 coach train runs Sterling while eight extra coaches join train 44 from Edgemont. Most trains reach Alliance between 10 and 11 a.m with equipment en route from Seattle to Lincoln for the event.

Aerial Circus to Draw Largest Crowd in Alliance History

Alliance prepares for a next Wednesday event titled the aerial circus expecting twenty five thousand attendees. Major Marr arrives to coordinate a day long display with a mock air battle featuring Allied and German aircraft, plus a London Lafayette escadrille roster.

Byrne Fined $100 On Liquor Charge

Alliance Community Club elects new officers and plans July racing

At a Thursday meeting the Alliance Community Club elected Den J. Salons as president, John W. Guthrie as vice president, and Chas Urittan as treasurer. The Box Butte County Fair Association contract was renewed for 6500. A racing program is planned for July 2 3 and 4 with a carnival to be held away from the business district.

At a special meeting the Alliance Women's Club voted to drop the limited membership and elected twenty nine new members to begin active duties next club year. The club, known for social and civic involvement, had limited membership to thirty five with long waiting list. Basements of the city library will soon host meetings in newly arranged quarters.

Stolen whiskey rumor ties cache to Alliance graveyard

Local gossip in Alliance suggests whiskey stolen weeks ago from a Burlington train lies in an unmarked grave near Alliance. Rumor says two barrels and seventeen quarts rest at John Barleycorn’s grave as mourners visit after dark. Police plan night watches in sheeted costumes to deter prowlers and recover the loot.

New Sidewalks Planned in East Town

East Alliance will add new sidewalks with curb crossings after council accepted a petition from residents. The project estimated at about 2090 dollars faced protests from Sweetwater Avenue property owners over tree mowing in warm weather. Council approved self financed walks on Missouri Avenue while planning a new sanitary sewer district near Emerson Platt and Third Toeth Streets. An April 30 concession issue and toilet facilities were discussed with the Community Club, including hitching posts on Niobrara Avenue. An adjourned meeting set for April 28 will consider licenses for pool halls and theaters.
