R E Annable a Burlington fireman accused J H Krase a German rancher of insult and fight after a local argument about international affairs. Annable hit Krase on the nose. Krase fell. Annable pleaded guilty but was fined 25 dollars with the fine suspended. Krase denied the charges.
Nebraska House members Legislate Thomas receives unanimous motion of thanks for sending The Alliance Herald to all members during the session. The motion was read into the house record on April 12 and attributed to F. E. Stearns and James Auten.
The Nebraska senate approved the amended prohibition bill by thirty to three after a long clash with the house over near beer provisions. Senator Robertson of Holt led wets, while house members pressed to maintain the original ban on near beer. A conference committee finally reconciled, and the report was signed by Robertson.
Paris reports capture of Chavenne and Chivy and French advance north of those towns toward Braye-en-Laonnois. Since Monday about 14,000 Germans captured, while enemy losses total around 30,000 killed wounded and prisoners. Western front extended twelve miles as German positions from Rheims to Champagne collapse. Victory linked to 1915 offensive.
