City Wins Damage Suit Against Alliance Over Electric Wire
The district court suit brought by minor Walter Hopkins and his father Henry Hopkins against the city of Alliance ended with a directed verdict for the city after a trial in which the boy, a trespasser, was injured by a live electric wire. Evidence showed heavy wind on May 23, 1914, toppled four power poles near the Bock brick yards, two inside a Burlington sheep enclosure and two outside. Neighbor Mrs. Dunbar testified to the accident as the boy touched the live wire seventeen feet inside the enclosure. City attorneys W R Metz and W J Connell defended with Omaha attorney William Mitchell assisting.
