Habeas corpus case over a 17 year old enlistment

In Allen County Ohio on January 3 1864 Judge Ben Metcalf heard John M Anderson petition for a writ of habeas corpus to discharge John H Anderson a minor held by Captain D S Brown Provost Marshal Fifth District Ohio as an enlisted soldier. The court discharged the youth and quashed the enlistment citing lack of age and parental consent. The record includes a lengthy exchange with Brown and a summary opinion by the judge criticizing military authority over civilians.

Capture of Streeter the Medina Murderer at Tichfield

Streeted murderer Streeter, who killed the Coy family months ago and broke jail on Christmas eve, was captured yesterday at Tichfield. Pursuers Sanders and Nelson, aided by Hart of Bielefeld, tricked the culprit into revealing himself. A pitchfork punctured Streeter, ending his resistance as he exclaimed he would return to Medina and Beling. The ordeal concluded with his death, in a cloud of mystery and grim irony.
