Wages of a Married Man Exemption Upheld By Iowa Supreme Court
Des Moines, Oct 21. The Iowa Supreme Court ruled that wages of a married man are not always exempt from garnishment. In Dowling & Allgood v Wilbur Wood, the employer Chicago Milwaukee and St Paul Railway was sued for 42. Wood had agreed to garnishment but contended the exemption could not be waived without his wife's consent. The court held that his agreement to the suit waives the exemption if proven and that the exemption serves to protect wife and children.

Mystery cave opened by accident near Canton farm
Anamosa Oct 22 a large subterranean cave was opened to the public on N Sutton’s farm south of Canton near Big Spring. A grazing horse broke through thin earth falling into the cave and died from injuries. The discovery was aided by boys and block and tackle. Nearby Maquoketa caves draw visitors annually.
