Insurance agent held liable for loss in wildcat firm case

Des Moines May 13 a Guthrie Center jury decision held that an insurgent or wildcat agent is liable for the value of policies he places if the company he represents cannot pay after a loss. Miss Hood and Miss Stomback sued A J Hemphill an agent with Mercantile Fire Insurance Co of Chicago for 1000 on stock damaged by fire at Panora last year. The court directed a verdict for the plaintiffs after three days of trial, a major ruling limiting such agents.
