More than 150 Iowa funeral directors attended the thirty fourth annual convention in Iowa City. President Thomas H. Macbride spoke on Ancient and Modern Burials with lantern slides showing burial customs from ancient Egypt to modern embalming. Des Moines was chosen for next year’s meeting.

Alligator Captured Near Parkersburg Iowa
A fourteen inch alligator was found basking on Beaver Creek banks near Parkersburg by Lawrence Thomas and J R Fitzgerald. The reptile, alive and active, was brought to Waterloo and shown to passersby, resisting captivity with snapping jaws and drawing crowds during the day.

Thrush Nest Survives Train Ride Near Limavady
A thrush nesting under a first class carriage over a steam pipe in Limavady, Ulster, laid four eggs. After the 4:40 pm Londonderry service altered to 4:50 pm, nest and eggs vanished, but the mother thrush was seen distressed at Londonderry. Railway officials delayed removing the carriage until the eggs hatched.
