Empress of Ireland Sinks After Collision in Dense Fog

A Canadian Pacific liner sinks after a mid Atlantic collision with the Norwegian collier Storstad near Father Point in the St Lawrence. Nine hundred sixty four dead, four hundred three survivors. Adventists Meet With Unusually Large Attendance at Des Moines

Des Moines reports the fifty-first annual Adventist session at the fairgrounds drawing a full camp and city congregation. Sabbath services were emphasized with a large Sabbath school attendance and a notable per member donation average. The year 1913 Sabbath schools contributed $299,007.41 to foreign missions, with a June 27 target of $15,000 set by the general conference. Elder W. T. Knox led the afternoon service from Washington, D. C.

Charles City Lighting and Heating company renames Cedar Valley Power and plans to supply Nashua Clarksville Bristow Allison Dumont Farh ersburg Hampton Chapin Sheffield and Rockwell. Mystery death of Roy Spade found in river at Davenport

Private Roy Spade of the Rock Island arsenal is found in the Mississippi below Davenport. His weighted body bears a tied sack and bruising. Spade, an inveterate gambler last seen at a Rock Island gambling house, had been missing four days. The inquest failed to solve the case as Davenport, Rock Island, and Mollne police investigate.
