Treasury panic plan sparks mixed review and mockery
Leslie M. Shaw deposits government money with New York banks to avert panics drawing both censure and praise. Critics, including the London Times, question government duties to shield markets, suggesting the idea makes the treasury a panics-fighting force abroad and at home, a notion rivaled by jokes of a Panic Averting Fund and a Panic Killer.

Turkeys Drive to Chicago Boosts Ethel Missouri Poultry Trade
Chicago turkey dealers have built a large business near Ethel in Macon county, Missouri. Last year the area shipped $20,000 in birds, this year nearing $60,000. A New Boston purchase of 1652 turkeys fed a 15 mile overland drive, the largest herd yet to a shipping point in the county, with thousands of geese and chickens. Turkeys and geese are driven from within ten miles, often 500 to 700 birds at a time, aided by many workers and incentives for picking and handling birds.
