Ark Fire Ends Algona Foundry Era
Last Friday night the old Ark building in Algona burned after a 2 a.m. blaze. The two shacks used for foundry work survived, but tools and fixtures were lost and probably not insured. The Ark, once the post office, stood opposite the Teenant hotel and had been sold to Britt parties. A separate fire near the Milwaukee depot destroyed a former eating house east of the Milwaukee hotel, though it was unoccupied. Painter Mr. Sniffen had furniture stored there, which was destroyed. owner W. L. Joslyn held $300 insurance on the building.
