Montana tragedy on train links Carey death to mystery
David Carey, a 42 year old miner from Butte, shot himself on an eastbound Northern Pacific train near Billings after a three week visit with relatives in Algona. His death, tied to fear of threats and possible surveillance, leaves a wife and four children in Montana and a long, wandering life before his return to Butte. Observers doubt the self-inflicted theory without eyewitness confirmation. The body was to be brought to Butte, and his little girl would go home with her mother.
