Students petition the schol board for authority to establish self government in assembly. Board President Kurtz voices no objection. Superintendent Sheakley allows it with veto power retained.
Rock Rapids January 26 Col J K B Thompson died with no will and an estate near 176000 to 775000 in bank stock. Under law his wife receives one third and the remaining two thirds go to his three children Mrs J Parker Mrs A Wald and Hoyt F Thompson.
Iowa announces five Keokuk county cases next Tuesday before the state railroad commission. The Rock Island line is challenged by farmers who demand cattle guards and wing fences at private grade crossings to protect stock. Estherville Iowa January 26 C O Miller returned from Chicago where he demonstrated a patented burglar proof vault with an air chamber and diaphragm linked circuit closer. The system wires to a distant gong device and has been tested by Chicago Edison experts who deem it secure against burglary. H B Gear Edison general manager endorses the alarm linkage as impossible to bypass without triggering the vault alarms.
Frank Van Duzen vanished from Fort Dodge with a woman who claimed to be his wife. Earlier a second woman also claimed to be Mrs Van Duzen and sent letters from Reading Massachusetts. Now both claimants and Van Duzen have disappeared, leaving the other Mrs Van Duzen behind with no action to arrest the man.
Orange City January 24 crowds gathered for the Reynolds trial recap as Rosa Rachel Warrell sues John M Krause of Granville for 2000 damages alleging breach of promise. Evidence shows John Ise, a farmer's son, courted Rosa in South Dakota and Granville with his mother opposing the match due to Rosa’s red hair.
In Lanesboro a dispute arises as a Methodist minister opposes the saloon in the town built between Fort Dodge and Omaha. After the saloonkeeper defies objections, an injunction is obtained, closing the saloon for cleaning. The minister’s sole complaint is sanitation. Hearing set for January 26.
