Two deadly railroad accidents in Iowa injure and kill several. In Centerville a fast Milwaukee Road engine struck a buggy, killing 18 year old Pollock instantly and seriously injuring Tom Lynn and George Stirtenmyer. A second derailment on the Chicago Milwaukee and St. Paul line near Bellevue left one dead and seven injured, with Conductor Ted Martin among the fatally hurt and Mrs Rohan crushed to death. The cause remains undetermined.

Des Moines, February 26. Just before adjournment the Iowa House caused a sensation when Moore of Linn County denounced the judiciary committee for reporting adversely on a bill to relocate county seats without waiting for a hearing agreed upon for Cedar Rapids. He explained the move was a mistake.
In Des Moines the Senate committee on corporations reported a bill to require annual reports from corporations while other committees advanced bills on bounty for pocket gophers and allowing liquor shippers to sell in any place. The Senate also passed a measure authorizing pumping stations tied to levee and drain projects and to improve assessments against Wilson's right of way.

Fire partially destroyed the home of George Lalluff in Town City on February 26. A baby girl woke the family just in time to escape down the only stairway. The blaze then attacked the stairway as residents fled, but no injuries are reported.
Remsen February 26. B J Beck has bought a newspaper plant and will publish a second paper in Remsen. He plans to issue the first edition next week.
Jerome W. Hoot, once convicted for sending an infernal machine to his wife ten years ago, has been released from Annamosa. Des Moines Iowa February 23 Mrs Harvey Losier wife of a prominent florist and Louis Shermerhorn secretary of the Des Moines Creamery were arrested at midnight on adultery charges brought by Losier. The arrest shocks the city given the parties involved. Mrs Losier formerly Miss Neale Jackson of Knoxville Ta took a hotel apartment and declined to be seen while her husband is at large. An influenza outbreak struck the Iowa Soldiers home in Marshalltown. Today 100 are confined in quarters, hospitals housing the worst cases. Including three chronic patients, hospital totals rise to 148 and overall sick count reaches 249, the facility’s peak. Commandant C C Horton and Chief Surgeon H P Dufield are among the ill. The advanced age of many patients makes the grip especially serious.
Judge J. L. Husted a prominent Dubuque figure died suddenly this morning of blood poisoning after a short illness. He served on the district bench and was named by the Republican convention for the same post last fall on a nonpartisan ticket. A Cleveland Democrat, he was 62 and formerly lived in Waterloo.

Charles F Chase of Atlantic is back from Knoxville where he organized a Democratic newspaper venture with possible morning and evening editions. The company is about to be capitalized at 100000, with Knoxville financiers holding part of the stock. Chase founded the Atlantic Democrat twenty seven years ago and has long been active in local Democratic politics. Carnegie to give 25000 to Iowa Wesleyan University in Mount Pleasant as conditions for expanded endowment to 100000 to meet new requirements.
