Ponce Sailed Toward New York After Shaft Break

New York and Bermuda report the steamer Ponce, eleven days overdue from Ponce Puerto Rico to New York, sighted off Hamilton Bermuda in tow of a tramp. A shaft is broken but all aboard are well. tug escorts as the ship heads for dock in Bermuda. A second liner Maricas arrived from Trinidad and Grenada, delayed by a circulating pump failure and thirty six hours of repairs.

Great Northern Not Able to Close Its Books Now

New York on January 11 reports Pennsylvanian railway plans to issue 10 million dollars in stock shook market. Pennsylvania stock fell four points amid heavy selling as St Paul Atchison Northern Pacific and Baltimore and Ohio led declines. Books were delayed closing to January 18 with first payment moved to that date. Strasspurg, Jan. Twenty persons perished today in a fire that tore through the book bindery of Hu vert & Company, an English firm at Gelapolaheim near the city. A vat of bolting celluloid exploded, causing instant ignition of everything nearby. many who escaped the burning room were severely scalded.

Luis Salx and partner Elieso Valles were sheep herders who killed two prospectors on Manzano Mountain. Salx faced execution. Gov Hagerman denied a reprieve. Valles received life imprisonment.

Water shortage and murder among prospectors and natives

A party of prospectors and guides traveled through dry country and ran out of water on September 29. Four men, Billingsten and McLaughlin among them, left camp for water. natives with rifles accompanied them. Mrs Billingsten stayed behind. The four men were killed. Billingsten shot with his own gun from the rear, McLaughlin killed from behind. The killers fled with the guns. both suspects confessed to their roles.

Albuquerque June 11 1905 Frank W Clancy district attorney endorses that chapter 27 of the laws of 1905 has no application to precinct elections or school directors and commissioners ballots need not bear endorsements on backs to preserve secrecy. He recommends plain white paper ballots three by eight inches and warns against printing back endorsements on any tickets.
