The Albany Review extends New Year wishes for 1950 and 1980, praising service to patrons near and far from Canada to Florida. It pledges honest, unbiased work and vows to strengthen ties with readers, aiming for health happiness and prosperity in the coming year.
Russell Seger aged 64 died Sunday morning at his home west of town after suffering a stroke. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 PM at the home and 2:30 PM at the M E church with burial in Erie cemetery. He leaves a wife and several siblings. Elizabeth Shellhammer 86 died Sunday morning after a year of invalidism. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 PM at the home with interment in Sharon cemetery. She was born in 1842 and taught school before marriage in 1872. she leaves a daughter and a brother.
Miss Marguerite Pfundstein daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Pfundstein and Gordon Bleitz son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bleitz were married Thursday in Geneva by Rev. W. W. Aylesworth of West Methodist church. They will visit Chicago then reside near Fenton after March 1. Both are Evie community high school graduates. she is a teacher in White Side county and he is a Greene school teacher near Lyndon.
Plans for the Baptist church annual meeting followed a midweek prayer service. The Tuesday night program listed election of officers for the P U. and B society, reports from departments, a social time with supper, and a prayer service with a watch meeting.
Mr and Mrs S B Dimond entertained at a New Year dinner Wednesday with guests Mr and Mrs BE J Dan Mr and Mrs A J Olds and sons Mr and Mrs R J Dimond and Prof Dorothy Dimond of Town City.
Miss Esther Drury of Northwestern University Evanston arrives Tuesday the 24 to enjoy holidays with her parents Mr and Mrs Maurice Drury and relatives. Others to arrive include Miss Minnie Olds from Oshkosh Wisconsin Mr and Mrs M M Wall and Martha of Danville Illinois and many students and families from Iowa Illinois and Chicago returning for the season.
Mrs Arsely Parker hosted Christmas with limited guests. Miss Virginia Maxfield was absent and her granddaughter ill. Edwin Maxfield from Moline and Albert Saiter of Rock Island joined Mrs Parker and Mrs Sutter, who cared for her mother. Edwin stayed until Saturday before returning home with his aunt.
The home of Mr and Mrs William Gordon in Rock Island is under quarantine as their younger son John has had smallpox in a mild form. The Gordons are former Albany residents with Mrs Gordon related to Mrs George Huygens.
Mr and Mrs George Neffel hosted a Sunday visit from Adams of Alton. She came with her son and his wife Mr and Mrs Chamber Adams of Falton. They stayed at Red Loftus Sr house as sisters to Aunt Mary who enjoyed the reunion with former Albany neighbors.
The Pythian Sister temple 291 will install officers at its regular meeting next Tuesday evening at Castle Tall.
A group from the M E church led by Rev E B Wilson toured the town on Monday evening December 2 from 7:30 to 9 singing Christmas carols. They carried light boxes and visited porches and windows to bring seasonal cheer. Homes were opened to them with offerings of sweets and thanks while a young member exclaimed, This is fun let's go out every night and sing. The hymns included Silent Night Hark the Herald Angels Sing It Came Upon a Midnight Clear Little Town of Bethlehem and Away in a Manger with a long itinerancy list of participants.
Relatives from Albany attended the funeral of Mrs Ella M Hardy in Lyndon Illinois held Sunday afternoon at 1:80 pm at the Congregational Church with Rev Lawrence Yenhohen officiating. Interment followed at Grove Hill Cemetery Morrison. Mrs Hardy born October 20 1853 in Ohio was the eldest of fourteen. She married Richard Wardy in 1877 at Round Grove. Surviving: four children including Mrs D J McKee Sterling Mrs Lyman Torney Mrs Frank Mitchell and Murray Wardy Lyndon.
Sunday evening Mrs. Lee Sharer entertained with an oyster supper. Guests included the hostess's family and friends M and Mrs. Rey faimh and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Kay and family, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley George and family, Bennett Tucker, Carl Tucker, Oswald Tucker, plus out of town guests Miss Mary De Nolf of Rockford and Miss Katherine Miler of Fulton.
Mr and Mrs Willard Sharer with Miss Clara Anderson traveled to Iowa City Saturday. Clara visited her mother Mrs Richard Anderson at the University hospital and reported she is improving from a major operation. Sunday the party with other relatives enjoyed Yuletide with the Hugegins family and Mrs Chester Drennen and Louise of Ottawa Illinois.
A Christmas pageant titled Gifts of Gladness was performed at the M E Church on Christmas Eve by four cast members and about 25 voice choir. The church was festively decorated with evergreens, lights, and a central Bethlehem tableau. Santa visited with candy and gifts as Rev Duvall noted no services that week.
A Christmas tale notes Mrs. Geo Rennecker received an up to date electric washing machine as a Christmas gift. The item is described as an extra fine present befitting her deserving status.
The Erie community high school alumni held their annual reception Friday in Burchells hall with about 100 attendees. The program, led by the program committee, featured a two act play Christmas in Finnigans Flat by the Dramatic club, piano solos by Adia Burns and Mary Miller, an address of welcome by Letha Boone, a response by Charles Hawk, and the election of officers: President Cleary Coster, Vice President Bernice Scott, Secretary Grace Matson, and Treasurer Charles Hawk.
A Christmas gathering at Mrs. Mary Sharer’s home drew a joyful crowd of twenty one relatives and generations. Eleven relatives were reported missing from the day, yet those present enjoyed abundant food and festive companionship, though several gifts remained behind with Mrs. Sharer after departure.
Mr and Mrs Earl Robinson and son Everett of Hampton joined Mr and Mrs John Pollard and Miss Mabel Pollard for a midday meal. Later visitors included Miss Berleha Mace and George Belutski of Moline with Mr and Mrs Raymond Angelese.
On Christmas Day Mr and Mrs A Aapie hosted their son and three daughters and their families for a generous dinner. Present were Mr and Mrs Frank Fowler and their children, Mr and Mrs Robert Curry of Newton with their youngsters, Mr and Mrs Harold Parker and children, and Mr and Mrs Clifford Rowland of Garden Plain township beside the Curry household.
Miss Lydit Sailhammer returned from a visit in Minneapolis with friends. She enjoyed the trip, and the writer adds that it would have given more pleasure if her twin sister Mrs. Sadie Wild had joined her.
From the Glub Social column of the Eau Claire Leader Mrs Sarah Ford Rooney Ronney is active in Pythian Sister Lodge social and lodge affairs. She was named manager of the temple for 1930. Rooney is a former Albany girl with many friends. Her uncle Charles S Efner, long employed by the U S government on a dredge boat, is visiting at her niece’s home near the old town.
Dr. S B Dimond and Mrs Dimond welcomed Curtis H Ede of Spokane Wash and his wife for a pleasant Friday call in Albany. Ede formerly served as principal of the local schools, now spending holidays with Morrison friends.
Van Quick Sheets from Oklahoma City arrived in Fulton East on December 4 for a Christmas gathering at Dr. and Mrs. Geo H Thompson's home. Attendees included Martha Quick Stockumb Nan Sheets and other Quick family relatives from Iowa Clinton Morrison and Oklahoma City. Sheets left Friday, traveling with Barbara and Mrs Alexander to Chicago.
The Hoobler family and relatives from Rock Island County Chicago and Clinton gathered at D C Hoobler's home to celebrate the Christmas season with family, friends, and festive cheer, sharing a glad occasion under parental care.
Mr and Mrs George Haynes with son Wilbur and daughter Violet traveled to Port Byron for Christmas Eve and a reunion at Mina Engdahl’s home. Relatives from afar joined the family meal and gift exchange, sharing a warm holiday gathering.
Mr and Mrs C A Olds presided over a fine six o clock dinner at their home on Christmas Day. Guests included Miss Blin nid Olds of Oshkosh Wis Mr and Mrs F C Von Ach and daughters Dorothy Kathryn and Mary Alice of Burlington Iowa Mrs Chau ney West and infant daughter of Gilesburg Mrs Edith Brinker of Davenport and Mr and Mrs C B Olds of Albany.
A lively gathering of 27 relatives and friends celebrated Christmas at the home of Mr and Mrs George Renneckey. Attendees included Mr and Mrs R O Lewis of Iown City and Mr Burl Schipper of Gardenplain in a festive afternoon event.
Mrs Martha Damhoff and John Costenryk were quietly married Tuesday evening December 2 at the Sparsonage of the First Reform Church with Rev G N Van Pernis officiating. The couple’s attendants were Mr and Mrs Dokpy Paber. Home to be in Fulton.
A Hill home hosted a Christmas day gathering with several guests listed, including Mr. and Mrs. Barl, Mr. Pletcher, Mr. Vries, and Mrs. Everett Eli of Clinton, Iowa. Daughters and other relatives were mentioned as part of the mixed company in a cordial holiday scene.
The younger son of Mr and Mrs Firy A Wax of Fulton recently underwent a serious knee operation at the state hospital in Iowa City and is convalescing well. His parents stayed several days to be with him and shorten his recovery time.
Mr and Mrs E A Huggins entertained at their home their daughter and son in law Mrs Roy Jordan and Roy, Mrs Leslie Yarbroagh of Morrison, sister to Mrs Huggins, Mrs Mina Sloend of Erie, Mr and Mrs Arthur Spangler and Mr Fred Jordu.
