A Persian mother’s tale of honesty and repentance
A mother gives her son forty pieces of silver and bids him never lie. On a journey with robbers the boy claims money sewn in his clothes, exposing his honesty when pressed. The chief and followers witness virtue, restore spoils, and vow repentance, teaching a moral about transmitted integrity.
The Intrepid Mother A Travellers Tale
A Paris to Chalons diligence stops at a roadside auberge where Mrs Martin and her child fear robbers. The red haired man arrives, the door is latched, and Mrs Martin hides under a bed with a scarf ready to strangle the intruder if needed. The night unfolds with suspense as the thief attempts to reach the child, while the landlady and house echo with fear and unspoken dangers. The confrontation ends as the scarf throttles the attacker and the danger resolves.

The Rev Dr Odenheimer on Jordan and Dead Sea
A letter from New Jersey recounts a Banner of the Cis piece contrasting the Dead Sea and the Jordan as symbols of divine wrath and grace. The Dead Sea covered in clouds represents sin’s judgment, while the Jordan and baptism symbolize Christ’s mercy and the washing of sin through water as a sign of God’s unfailing love.
