Indianapolis March 26. Miners and operators met in executive session to advance the wage scale. No report expected today. no changes since Saturday. Reports say coal companies prepare for a strike, withdrawing credit from miners and threatening eviction from company property. Even with agreement, bituminous and most anthracite mines may close Saturday night for up to sixty days.
Poulan Georgia marshal J. P. Cason faced a near miss when Will Evans a black man he was arresting fired at him at close range. The shot hit Cason in the left arm after striking a razor in his breast pocket. Evans fled after absorbing several shots.
Governor Currey reports a hard battle with Pulajanege on Samay island. Captain Jones and part of his constabulary held off attackers after a flag of truce was broken. Currey escaped by river and brush. 16 constabulary killed or wounded. 30 Pulajanese buried. Natives assist in the pursuit and promise decisive action.
A Washington dispatch reports President Roosevelt helped craft a plan with Secretary Root that ended eight months of Moroccan conference talks at Algeciras. The meeting resumes soon and is expected to accept the peace proposal.
New York March 25 the anthracite coal operators issued a statement showing miners wage hikes require a price rise of about 1 20 per ton to cover labor cost increases. Three wage raises push labor cost 21 64 percent per ton, with the burden falling on domestic sizes and a final net increase of roughly 51 8 cents per ton to producers.

Columbus March 26 Governor Pattison’s physicians reported at 10 o’clock this morning that the governor had passed a good night and was comfortable.
The State Democratic Executive Committee is expected to meet around April 17 to set a date for a state primary to nominate Georgia officials including the governor. Chairman M J Yeomans, ill in Dawson, aims to issue the call mid next month and address suffrage rules whether the primary is white or white Democratic in nature. Fulton has already taken mixed positions on the issue.
St. Petersburg March 25. An Associated Press report cites a high source on Russia's situation ahead of Parliament. It says the government seeks reform but fears a counter revolution, notes army reliability and reservist mobilization, and discusses Jewish status, peasant land hunger, and external loan effects. In Downing street a six story factory fire threatened many lives as walls collapsed forty five minutes after the alarm. Several girls escaped by leaping to nets from the second floor while flames spread to neighboring tenements. Four firefighters were hospitalized and two are missing.
