Berlin reports Herr Ballin of the Hamburg American Line announced that the German steamer Silvia, which left Vladivostok Monday with many Russian troops returning home, struck a mine and sank after a wrecked voyage. The ship was beached to prevent total loss. only the cook survived.
Fire swept through St Albans West Virginia nearly wiping out the town this morning. By 11 o clock the blaze was checked but the entire business district was razed with about 80000 dollars in damage and little insurance coverage.

Captain Thomas L. Welch longtime railroad conductor for Central of Georgia and later Bruns wick and Western and Plant System died at his Brunswick home after a long illness. He served on passenger trains between Albany and Brunswick and was a Mason and Knight of Pythias. He is survived by a wife and children. Funeral held today in Brunswick.
