Martin Henry Dies After Being Struck By Train

Martin Henry a negro switchman for the Central of Georgia railway died this morning from injuries suffered last night in the yards as the 9 o clock Central train departed. Henry appeared to be drinking and stepped onto the track as the train reached him, was knocked down, and the engine passed over him. Doctors P. L. and A. H. Hilsman treated him on site before his death. Henry had long service with the Central.

Four Die and Four Injured in Belmont Tunnel Shaft Blast

Four men died and four were hospitalized after an air pipe burst in the Belmont tunnel shaft on Man-o'-War Reef in the East River during early morning hours.

Arrests of All Members of Workmen's Council

In St. Petersburg on January 16 twenty two members of the Workmen's Council were arrested last night. Police seized numerous revolutionary documents and masses of correspondence. Officials believe the arrests will hamper future revolutionary actions.

Patrick not to hang next week

Albert T. Patrick the New York lawyer awaiting execution for Rice murder is reprieved to March 19 by Governor Higgins to permit counsel time to present newly discovered evidence. Senator Hill and Judge Olcott advoc ate the motion, with District Attorney Jerome present, and Patrick may pursue a new trial before seeking clemency. Attendance urged for Albany Business League organization meeting at city hall at 8 tonight.

Soldiers and peasants fight in Budapest election clash

In Budapest today six peasants and two soldiers were killed and many wounded in a clash between peasants and gendarmerie tied to a local election in the Bilkeberg district. Albany Business League meeting at city hall at 8 tonight.

Moroccan Conference Opens in Algeciras Today

The Moroccan conference opened in Algeciras at noon with the American delegation arriving at the town hall after Spanish French German and British delegates. The Spanish foreign minister Duke of Almodovar gave the welcome address and the German mission proposed him as president, a proposal supported by other nations.

The Georgia Supreme Court reconvened in Atlanta to hear an unusually heavy criminal docket from lower courts. Associate Justice Samuel C Atkins on, newly appointed to replace Chandler, attended for the first time. Stenographer R L McAllister has resigned. Albany January 16. Senator Brackett's resolution calls for Chauncey Depew's resignation from the U S Senate. A sharp speech urged adoption. Albany businessmen plan to organize the Albany Business League and meet at City Hall tonight urging attendance from every local businessman.

End of Dominican Revolution in San Domingo

San Domingo January 16 The port of Monte Christe capitulated to the government today with protection for rebel lives and property. The Dominican gunboat Independencia which backed Morales the former president has surrendered. The revolution has ended and order is restored.

Businessmen are urged to attend to review a drafted constitution bylaws and a finance plan prepared by a committee. The event follows a January 5 preliminary meeting that organized a committee and formed delegates to recruit local firms to join.

Filmt River & Northeastern Railroad Eyeing Standard Road Upgrade

A Ticknor dispatch reports engineers surveying the Filmt River and Northeastern line from Ticknor to Pelham to convert the present roadbed into a standard road with 60-pound rails. The line, originally built for logging, was purchased by the railroad company which plans improvements to create a prime short line through fertile farming regions in the South.

Albany Business League slated after widespread indictments

In Toronto on January 16 the government fined 184 individuals for restraining trade. Fines totaled $10,000 for guilty parties, with others remitted. A separate group facing a combined $12,000 penalty was fined earlier. Leaders named include Morris Weslosky, W Smith, A H Hilsman, C W Rawson, Joe Sparkes, A J Lippitt, J B Gibert, Edmund Kalman, Leo Marks, Henry Gortatowaky, Paul J Brown, A C Gortatowsky, John Betjeman, and J A Davis. A meeting at Albany City Hall tonight invites all interested parties to form the Albany Business League to boost the city’s development.

Fire wipes out huge section of Russellville business district

A Jan 16 report from Russellville Arkansas says a night fire in St. Louis spread to the outskirts, wiping out much of the town's business district. High winds fueled the blaze, estimated at about 300000 dollars in losses and two hours of uncontrolled flames before dawn.
