In a special meeting on Washington Street, the council decided to widen sidewalks on east west streets to 18 feet and on north south streets to 17 feet. Pine Street requires adjustments to walls due to grading, with a press plot space for shade trees and poles.
New Orleans hosts a three day session of the Southern Cotton Association with broad turnout from cotton states. Julius Love, white employee of Albany Power & Manufacturing Co., was seriously injured at the Big Shoals plant when a revolving belt seized his arm and flung him to the floor. He suffered a painful arm injury and head bruises but received prompt treatment and is recovering.
Fire early today heavily damaged the Piedmont Driving Club structures and destroyed the New York building donated to the club. The blaze also damaged carter hall on the exposition grounds, following a wall collapse in the New York building during last night’s event.
Private advices from New York report Sir Thomas Lipton remains hopeful to claim the America Cup. He plans a new challenger to arrive in 1907 but will not disclose details of his plans.

Julius B. Wilcox named city engineer of Albany succeeding R. J. Ligerly who led street paying and grading work. Wilcox, son of J. T. Wilcox of Macon, will focus on Washington street curbing sidewalk widening and related tasks. He is described as a young man of known ability and experience.

United States Marshal Chandler received a mandate from the court of appeals directing execution of the Chadwick district court judgment. Mrs Chadwick will depart for the Columbus penitentiary to begin a ten year term, likely tomorrow morning.
The council approved ordinances allowing the Albany Northern and the Georgia Northern railroads to extend tracks from Union Depot south along Front Street to the city limits and Broad Street, with conditions. Each railroad must submit plans within five months, indemnify the city, and ensure maintenance and protection against damage before work begins.
