Popular Local Couple Wed In Ketchikan
Arnold Wasvick and Evelyn Welde quietly married in Ketchikan on Tuesday. Welde, who left Petersburg last Saturday, joined Wasvick there and they plan to settle in Seattle. Both have long Petersburg ties. Welde ran the Blue Bird Cafe before recent change in management, while Wasvick studied at the local high school and worked for the Trading Union, Inc.

Forest Service Officials Complete Tongass District Survey
Forest Service officials spent about ten days in the district with ranger C M Archbold and others from Washington D C. They visited Thomas Bay Farragut Bay Duncan Canal and Blind Slough to inspect remaining timber and trails on Tongass National Forest. Loveridge reports favorable timber conditions and increasing need for trails due to heavy prospecting in southeastern Alaska. He will report findings in Washington D C after returning from Ketchikan.

Huskies Sweep Three Races Against Wisconsin Crews
University of Washington crewmen won all three races against Wisconsin with the Husky crews leading the series. The squads were set to arrive in Poughkeepsie June 18 and race on the 21st. The Varsity has three wins in ten meetings at Poughkeepsie. Freshmen took second and fourth in two races. Junior Varsity won three of six at Poughkeepsie. One Freshman member, Herbert Mjorud of Petersburg, is a local graduate.

Swanson family trip ends as Ida leaves for Portland
Verne Hoban, treated at Juneau Hospital, returned on the Evans from Juneau. Ida Swanson, with Mr. G. B. Swanson and Miss Lillian Swanson, had spent two weeks in Petersburg visiting relatives and left toward Portland, Oregon, on the Evans Thursday night.

Plane wreck at McGrath fields injures none
A Service Airline plane with aviator Percy Hubbard and Ernest Gullather wrecked about 25 feet from the upper end of the McGrath field during landing. The landing gear broke and the aircraft turned over, but both men escaped unharmed.

Application Filed For Power Project Near Capitol City
George T. Cameron publisher of the San Francisco Chronicle filed with the Federal Power Commission for a final license to build a $4,000,000 power project near Juneau. It would produce 81,000 horsepower to power a pulp and paper mill on Gastineau Channel. The license is believed assured. The project cost covers water development only, not the mill.

New Approach To Public Dock Under Construction Now
An updated public dock approach is under construction and slated for completion by late July. The twenty foot wide project will become Petersburg’s widest street extending from Main Street to the dock. Four Men Drown in Kuskokwim River Crossing
Four men perished when an open boat on the Kuskokwim River capsized last week. Charles Sankey and Seldon Seigrist from Oakland California, plus Alexi Dulk and Nick Pitka natives, drowned. Sutton Myers, son of the Bureau of Education physician at Aklak, survived after swimming to shore. Sankey had secured a $5,000 life insurance policy for his wife before leaving Seattle on May 17.
