At a regular meeting last Friday night the Juneau City Council approved a vote among Alaska Juneau mine workers on returning to work. Yesterday 461 ballots favored returning to work and three favored continuing the strike. Union members about 120 strong did not vote. Dewey Knight of the Immigration Department in Ketchikan acted as conciliator and arrived in Juneau on the Aleutian. No state ments yet on next moves. no general strike threat.
An obituary notes Shirley Baker a fisheries agent based in Wrangell died in Seattle on May 31 after a long illness. He lived in Alaska for 20 years, came from Cordova four years ago and was well regarded by cannery workers and fishermen. He is survived by his wife and four children.
