Ordinance 103 bans firecrackers in Petersburg with a two inch by three eighth inch limit. Sales are forbidden outside July 2 to 4, and displays require police permission. Violations incur up to $100 fine or 30 days in jail. July 3 and 4 are the allowed firing days.
The Petersburg Press urges citizens to buy locally to aid home businesses and ensure regional prosperity. It states merchants must compete fairly and meet prices to keep customers loyal, stressing cooperation for the common good.
Fifty cans of shrimp shipped from Petersburg to Colorado Springs for the Jaycee National convention. Warren Houston, Alaska delegate and national director, attends from Juneau. Alaska and Hawaii each receive one can. two Anchorage members also attend. Shrimp donated by Kayter-Dahl Fish Co. Inc.
Three scouts and their Scout master depart for interior Alaska this month. Robert Lloyd Ronald Sarff and Jim Rhodes with Scoutmaster Dickson Talor leave Wednesday Thursday and tomorrow to join Petersburg scouts in Juneau. They will board an Army plane for Ladd Field Fairbanks and be away about 12 days.
There will be no Masonic meeting tonight due to the absence of many members and officers.
At a Chamber of Commerce luncheon officials discussed no new road projects this year due to limited funds while harbor dredging gains support. Mayor Devin urged Petersburg harbor dredging. Alaska Steamship and President Lines explored Prince Rupert routes with ferries carrying 100 cars and 900 passengers.
At the Business and Professional Women's Club meeting officers for the new year were nominated and elected. Lillian Swanson is president, Pauline Parr vice president, Zella Grenier recording secretary, Jessie Snyder corresponding secretary, Miriam MacKechnie treasurer. Installation will take place June 21 in the Recreation dining room.
The American Legion Auxiliary unveils its annual Hope Chest display at Cornelius Mercantile. Members announce separate items will be shown this year, highlighting community support and auxiliary efforts.
Elk’s Senior Trout Derby dates moved to June 1 through August 31 to suit peak fishing season. Chairman Ed Hagerman notes strong interest, plans display of trout weekly in Waswick and Lorwick stores, and invites any fisher over 15 with no entry fee. Prizes will be awarded to winners.

Family members held a dinner at the home of Mr and Mrs Louis Miller Sr to mark Louis Miller Sr s 88th birthday. Six grandchildren attended and neighbors joined in offering best wishes to the long time Peters resident on the occasion.

Petersburg Rotarians announce a city drinking fountain installation completed Thursday by a city crew led by Kenneth Welde. The long awaited convenience is now in place for public use, marking a notable civic improvement.
