Emancipation Day Barbecue In Alamogordo Stirs Tensions
The event drew about 60 local colored residents and 40 visitors from Las Cruces for Emancipation Day ceremonies. A park barbecue was mishandled as Mexican youths swarmed for free food, forcing volunteers to package leftovers for the pastor at Corinth Baptist Church. Rev. A B Hanks lamented the disruption and wished prior warning had been given, though attendees still enjoyed the day.

Washington reports Iowa joins Connecticut and New Hampshire in voting to repeal the 18th amendment. With 611,000 votes counted, Iowa approved repeal 368,691 to 242,612, giving 99 delegates for repeal. New Hampshire backed repeal 70,969 to 30,337 and Connecticut 236,915 to 35,349.

Goods in Commissary Robbery Recovered Two Held
Alejandro Hernandez pleaded guilty and Rumal Comanche pleaded not guilty in Justice Court on Wednesday. They are charged with breaking into the South west Lumber Co Commissary on Tuesday night. Entrance was through a window. Goods were found buried in Hernandez’s backyard during a Wednesday search. Hernandez is held on $400 bond and Comanche on $750 bond.

Ignacio Roman and wife injured in auto collision
Ignacio Roman and his wife were struck by a car driven by Bill Ostic at the corner of Pennsylvania Avenue and 2nd Street. Roman suffered a brain concussion and severe shock, his wife bruises on a leg. Ostic faces pending charges as Romans’ condition remains serious.

Little Franklin Baby Buried Friday
Funeral services for the one year old daughter of Mr and Mrs C D Franklin were held Friday at 130 at the Geren Leadinghaus Chapel by Rev L L Thurston. Interment followed at Mount Vista Cemetery. The chapel was crowded with family friends and floral offerings. A mixed quartet sang two hymns and the pastor spoke brief comfort. The child was accidentally drawn into Clearwater Pool around 1 o'clock Thursday June 15.
