The session also covers the statewide Tax Equalization Program with Chief Tax Commissioner Harold Sellers slated to speak. Hal R. Cox will chair the General Resolutions Committee. Since March nearly 1000 producers have applied to join the organization.
Alamogordo town board voted 3 to 1 to refuse Lo Bivens application to move a liquor license from Cloudcroft to the Lawrence addition near the New Mexico School for the Blind. Objections included six petitions from area property owners and residents, plus a school board resolution urging denial.

Construction begins on a $15 000 Sunday School addition at Grace Methodist Church funded by 7500 cash and 7500 loan. Ray Matteson to build a 20 by 60 foot concrete cinder block and wood structure adding eight rooms, with completion aimed at 60 days barring delays.
Two women received final citizenship papers from District Judge W Scaggin Jr. Angelina Yarter and Maria Catanzarite wed in Naples 1944 and Wiesbaden 1917 respectively. Catanzarite's husband Francis J. Catanzarite is an electronics engineer at Holloman AFB, and Yarter's husband Bernardo Yarter is a sergeant with SCEL now at White Sands Proving Grounds. The families live on Ninth and Fifteenth streets with three children Antonio Maurice and Claude.

An expansion plan includes a second story addition to increase workshop space, with about 1 trainee currently and a potential group over 100.
Pat Fowler, arrested on a drunken driving count after crashing through Holloman Air Force Base east fence, was moved to Santa Fe by U S Marshal on a stolen car count. Bond set at 2500 dollars. Police say the 196 car used had a forged Texas title and belonged to Albuquerque in February.

Division chairmen for the Otero County Fair to be held September 22 to 24 were appointed by fair chairman James Joy. Appointees include Mose Cauthen as overall assistant, Ben Rutz ground committee chair, James Wayne produce, Duncar Campbell entertainment, Charles Cookson poultry, Walter Wade club and judging, Murray Morgan publicity, Herbert Bays finance, and Fred Gage hobbies. District leaders Sheleies Wingfield Cloudcroft Jon Cadwallader High Rolls Mountain Park D P Young Mescalero and M Brown Holloman AF Base will form community committees.
Judge W T Scoggin Jr sets June 27 for grand jury convening in Otero County after petitions filed by Geo A Shipley. Over 100 signatures added since a Community Center meeting, 117 of petition signers are taxpayers. 12 of 30 drawn jurors will serve. three signers are Mescalero Indians. The panel will investigate all matters within grand jury scope and any state law violations.
Construction of a pipeline from Carl Ranch and Maruchi springs advances rapidly to boost Alamogordo’s domestic water. Pipe works connect Carl Ranch springs to the main line and extend toward Maruchi Springs at Mescalero border. Project aims for six week completion with an anticipated 500 to 600 gallons per minute overall output. The system will capture springs in a central box and feed the domestic supply while reducing contamination and evaporation. La Luz and Fresnal creek claims are noted.
DL Cowart of Lordsburg won the bid for 16.7 miles of state route 24 construction between Cloudcroft and Weed. The project includes grading draining and asphalt paving replacing a gravel road to create a flatter safer trucking route for Cox Canyon produce and nearby timber for a local sawmill at Alamogordo. The firm is noted for a recent oil gar faving contract and the route connects near Denny Bridge to Bear Canyon with funding from county federal secondary road funds.

G P Russell, long time mill superintendent at M R Prestridge Lumber Co, will retire this week after 53 years in sawmill work. He began in Pawnee Louisiana in 1807 and has worked at every mill position. He moved to Alamogordo in 1989 to join Prestridge Mill and will make Alamogordo his home.
